Residential care
Residential homes offer the type of care that a caring relative would offer. Nursing needs such as treatment of a leg ulcer are normally met by visiting district nurses. If a resident requires first aid, or district nurses are for some reason unable to visit, our nursing staff would ensure that nursing needs are met. People cared for in residential homes are more able than those cared for in nursing homes. The average residential home has one member of staff to every 10 residents morning and evening and one member of staff to 16 residents at night.
Nightingale has three residential units within our care complex. Our residential units are designed to a standard far in excess of legal requirements. Outlined below is the type of care normally provided in residential homes:
- Serving meals and encouraging the person to eat
- Helping to cut up food
- Helping and encouraging individuals to walk around
- Assisting individuals to dress
- Assisting individuals to bathe and shower
- Assisting, reminding and caring for people who are forgetful or a little confused
- Assisting, supervising or giving out medication
- Caring for people who have continence problems
People who use a wheelchair but who are able to transfer independently or with the assistance of one person are welcome. We provide wheelchairs to enable residents who tire easily to move around Nightingale.
