A Guide to our Services
Nightingale as with other care homes is regulated by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI). One of their requirements is that we produce a guide on the services we have on offer.
Nightingale is dedicated to providing quality care for older members of the Jewish community on a long-term or respite basis. Physical, intellectual, emotional, cultural, religious, social and artistic needs are catered for with sensitivity on an individual basis.
Nightingale is committed to ensuring privacy, dignity, independence and choice for residents and the very best practice in all aspects of their care.
Care on our Nightingale Lane site is provided in six separate units – three of which are for Residential care and three for Nursing care. One of the major buildings in this complex is the Gerald Lipton Centre which was built in 1976. The building comprises four accommodation floors, three of which are for our Residential residents and one, the Sampson Floor, provides Nursing care.
The Ground Floor of the Gerald Lipton Centre offers various lounges, a snooker room, Succah, function rooms, a library and other services.
Birchlands is a 35-bedded Nursing unit. All rooms have private facilities, in addition to which there are large lounges and bright dining rooms and a conservatory which offers easy access to our gardens.
The Main Building is where our residents who suffer with dementia are cared for. Located on two floors, it offers excellent accommodation and public rooms and a special reminiscence room.

Care
Nightingale caters for the needs of the Jewish community and services and facilities are therefore tailored to meet the needs of this specific community. In total, Nightingale is licensed to provide care for 248 residents with a range of care and nursing needs including those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
The level and nature of the care you receive will have been assessed initially prior to and on entry to the Home. Care at Nightingale is provided either in a Residential unit, a Nursing unit or in our Dementia unit. Regular care reviews will ensure that your evolving needs continue to be met. Should your health change significantly, in some circumstances it may be necessary for you to be cared for in a unit other than to which you originally moved. Any such proposed move will take place in consultation with you and if requested with your family and, where applicable, with the sponsoring local authority.
Catering
Catering at Nightingale is contracted to an external company called Caterplus. The management team is always available to talk to you in their office on the Ground Floor of the Gerald Lipton Centre. A Food Forum, which is open to all residents, is held every three months where we very much welcome your feedback on the catering service. There are also “for comment” books on each Unit and again please feel free to give your written comments.

Fees at Nightingale as from 1st April 2008 are £750 per week for Residential care to £980 per week for Nursing care. The care of some residents is funded by the local authority. In such cases this will usually also involve a personal contribution from the resident. Nightingale operates a Third Party Contribution policy whereby relatives are required to contribute towards fees to supplement what is received from the local authority.
Fees are fully inclusive of all Nightingale services, the only exceptions being dry cleaning charges, in some cases dental and optician fees, hairdressing, newspapers and magazines and tickets for events such as the opera or theatre and telephone costs.
Where a local authority is responsible for funding, payment will be arranged directly between them and Nightingale. For privately funded clients fees are payable quarterly in advance. Payments at varying levels are received from the National Health Service in relation to Nursing clients.
For further information, please see the document “A Guide to Fees”, a copy of which is available from the Residents Services office.
